america this morning. >> stay with us for "good morning america." this morning, a community's nightmare after another deadly rampage. the shooter bursting into a scene into a spa in wisconsin. three people dead. victims of both coming together this morning. final showdown, the battle in boca. the candidates clash again. new polls showing a dead heat. wrong place, wrong time. it's tough to watch but he's ogg. as a pedestrian is caught in the middle of a high-speed chase. and fish tale. a day on the water not soon forgotten by man nor beast. good morning, i'm john muller. >> and i'm sunny hostin. rob and paula are off today.

and we begin this monday with police in the milwaukee suburb of brookfield, wisconsin, trying to piece together that mass shooting at a day spa on sunday morning. >> they now say the gunman's wife worked at the spa, and after killing three women and wounding three others, the shooter killed himself. >> reporter: with the suburb just west of milwaukee still in shock, the mayor tried to find words for sunday, calling the shootings a senseless act on the part of one person. and we are now learning more about that person. police found the body of 45-year-old radcliffe haughton in the spa dead of a self-inflicted wound. haughton was in court after being arrested for slashing his wife's tires. he was oorged to turn any guns over to the sheriff's department. but that order was apparently

too late. >> and then a woman came running across, and he had said her stepfather was in there trying to shoot as many people as he could. >> reporter: other witnesses describe a frantic scene in the sunday morning calm was shattered. >> i saw the girl coming out from the salon, and she was bleeding from the neck. with a towel over her neck. and she was very hurt. >> we saw some woman crawl out of the front door and roll down the hill. >> reporter: police did not immediately say haughton's wife was among the victims, but three women were killed and four others rushed to the hospital. >> all four are patients are expected to survive. unfortunately, we're coming out too familiar with this type of situation and we treat victims with gun violence every day at our hospital. >> reporter: vice presidential nominee paul ryan who is from wisconsin expressed their condolences. among those confronting the families of the victims, members

of the sikh temple in oak creek. and this morning, a final presidential debate in boca raton, florida. >> race is a virtual dead heat and the outcome could turn on a single mistake. brandi hitt has details. >> reporter: it's the third and final showdown. and tonight's presidential debate is focused on foreign policy. a topic that's already drawn fireworks. >> it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in benghazi an act of terror. >> get the transcript. >> reporter: president and mitt romney are expected to spar again over libya after "the new york times" reported that the u.s. and iran had agreed to one-on-one talks. >> now iran thinks they can go

much harder than they think they can go. >> reporter: the white house added it is open to one-on-one talks. >> and now to a point that iran's economy is on its knees. >> reporter: president obama has been preparing for the debate at camp david. and mitt romney in florida where he gave this advice between the football game. >> figure out which of the players is best and take them out early. >> reporter: a new poll shows the president has a five-point lead among registered voters but a likely race shows the race is a dead heat at 47%. >> i have a question. >> do you want me to answer? >> reporter: and denied that instead of circling each other, the candidates will be sitting. brandi hitt, abc news, boca raton, florida. >> but who could have predicted how those first two debates would go but "gma" anchor and host of "this week" george stephanopoulos has an idea of

welcome back. gas prices are plunging. the national average is now $3.68 a gallon, down 12 cents in the past week. that's still the highest price ever for this time of year. but aaa expects it to keep falling at a fairly good clip. you can thank the season but also falling oil prices and an end to refinery problems in california. it's not getting a lot of attention, but many of us are going to be hit by a big tax increase next year, no matter who wins the clerk. temporary reduction in social security payroll taxes expires at the end of the year.

neither presidential candidate is talking about an extension and there's little support for one in congress. airfares will continue to go up next year but not as fast as they have been. an increase of only 1% to 4% is expected. that's much less than this year, $4.5 and this year isn't over yet. still, that's better than last year where fares close twice as much. cell phone thefts are also rising. they account for almost half the robberies in san francisco and 40% in new york. wireless carriers and the s.e.c. are working on a national database to attract stolen devices but it's more than a year ago. aappears movie audiences are in the halloween move. "paranormal activity 4" and a fifth movie is planned. "argo" with $17 million. "hotel transylvania" was third

scandal. but he urged to continue to support to his charity. a death-defying crash between an unsuspecting pedestrian and a speeding squad car. take a look at this amazing footage. the man walked right out into the middle of a high-speed police chase. amazinglile he manages to land on his feet and casually walk away. lucky for him, he was able to think and act and jump on to the hood of what would easily have been serious injury or death. lucky guy. and that fireball that streaked across the northern california skies last week apparently left something behind. a two-inch meteorite has been found in a north bay neighborhood. a homeowner said she heard something hit the roof last night but didn't pay attention. but later she heard about the meteor and checked around. chances are you check into a
